The jump from 12V to 24V is significant: more torque, higher top speed (5–8 mph on most models), and terrain capability that makes real grass, gravel, and mild inclines manageable instead of motor-stalling obstacles.

Who Should Buy 24V

24V makes sense for kids roughly 5 and up — old enough that 12V speed feels boring and light enough that the extra torque doesn't become a handling issue. It also makes sense for younger kids in difficult terrain situations: thick grass, slopes, or any yard that's stopped a 12V motor dead. If your kid weighs over 65 lbs and is still riding a 12V, they're probably dragging the motor.
